I Am.
My name is Alice. I am a graphic designer and experimental
typographer. I have a passion for design. I say it with my guts.
I believe discipline is important. Discipline is a word that
I repeat to myself often because without discipline we cannot produce
our best work. Design in its purest essence speaks for itself
so let my design speak for me.
Alice.
I was approached by Polly Cantlon to design the book cover and end pages for the book titled "Trevor Morris A Life in Design". Cover design and end paper feature custom designed typefaces. The book received a Bronze Best Award in the Graphic Design Arts catergory.
Identity design for creative strategist Amanda Easterbrook. Tasks included logo, business card, CV and website design.
An invite to designers and architects to attend a talk by Vitra's Patrick Guntzburger. Brief included a print invite, email invite and an online rsvp.
Rebranding for Chris Horton & associates. Brief included a new logo, business cards, letterhead, compliments slip and website design.
I love to illustrate, so in my free time I will take photos of objects and draw them. This particular style of drawing is called mechanical drawing. The objects you see are all my stuff!
I designed the ad for the Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design course at The University of Waikato for Pro Design magazine August 2010 Education supplement.
Master House Chinese Restaurant wanted to update their dinner menu. I revamped their existing logo to make the logo look more authentic. The final menus featured the restaurant logo gold foil stamped on each cover. The final menus were hand made by myself.
Master Wok is a fast food chinese shop recently opened at the The Base, Te Awa mall in Hamilton. I was asked to design their logo, I wanted to design a logo which was simplistic and modern.
This is a photograph I took to enter a competition to be on the cover of Her Magazine by Annah Stretton. I applied air brushing and other photoshop techniques to achieve a polished result.
Along with my friend Bron Taplin, we created a series of experimental photographs. We used a tank of water and placed different objects into the tank to create interesting compositions.
I wanted to explore the idea of appropriation. Therefore I took a series of illustrated objects and re-illustrated them to form a composition.
I decided to challenge myself in July this year. I decided I wanted to design a word a day for a month. Here are a few examples of the words I designed. To check out the rest of the words I designed for a month check out my blog http://typeforme.blogspot.com/ I also show the process I take to creating each word.
I wanted to explore the techniques of hand crafted type, therefore I decided to cut up letters out of cardboard which spelt "experimental 33". I decided to give myself a day to achieve this. I was
quite pleased with the final results.
This is a typeface which I have been developing for several years. It is quite structured and the purpose of the typeface is to be used on at least two separate surfaces. The letters can only be seen once the two surfaces are placed on top of each other. Thus introducing a new method to viewing messages.
For the purpose of this website, I decided to design a custom typeface. I enjoyed designing this typeface, I particularly like the serifs.
